제목 | Production of bio-based chemicals from biomass-derived carbohydrates and their application |
초록 | Current energy and environmental issues have led to many efforts to replace irreversible petroleum-based chemicals with renewable and sustainable bio-based chemicals. Biomass-derived carbohydrates are the most abundant carbon source on earth and 170 billion tons are annually regenerated by photo-synthesis. C6-Sugars obtained from biomass-derived carbohydrates can be converted to as bio-based alternatives to the petroleum-based aromatic chemicals such as furan compounds or isosorbide. Here, I would like to present various synthetic methods of furan compounds including 5-hydroxylmethyl-2-furfural (HMF), 2,5-diformylfuran (DFF), furan 2,5-dicarboxylic acid (FDCA) from biomass-derived carbohydrates developed in KITECH and the application of furan compounds or isosorbide to transparent coating materials, dental materials, and plasticizers. |
