Recently, the development of arc-jet plasma synthesis has enabled the mass production of the boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs). However, as-synthesized BNNTs could not be used directly in application research due to impurities (such as h-BN, BN cage, BN polymer, etc.) which limit the superior physical properties. The commonly method using a dispersant can easily obtain the high-purity level of BNNTs. However, these methods cannot remove the dispersant present on the BNNT surface. Thus, we conducted a study on the new purification method in which poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4vP) as dispersant can be easily removed by Lewis acid-base interaction (pyridine - Boron atom and pyridine-proton interaction). Furthermore, we explained the selectivity P4vP – BNNT and P4vP – impurities. The high purity level of BNNTs which remove the dispersant agent were analyzed by SEM, TEM, XRD, TGA, and NMR. |
