Synthesis and Characterization of Highly Stable Conjugated Polymer Introduced Dimethyl-Benzimidazole Moiety for OPVs |

In the past decade, there has been increasing interest in polymer solar cells due to the growing demand for “green” and sustainable energy. Conjugated polymer-based solar cells are expected to be cheaper because they can be fabricated at a much lower cost with the aid of large area solution casting or roll-to-roll manufacturing of flexible modules. In recent years many low band gap polymers have been developed to increase the light absorbing ability of solar cell devices. New conjugated polymers containing electron donor-acceptor pairs for organic photovoltaic device utilizing a new type of acceptor, dimethyl-2H-benzimidazole, are reported to show good solubility at room temperature in organic solvents. These donor-acceptor conjugated polymers were synthesized by Stille coupling reaction of 2,2-dimethyl-4,7-di(2-thienyl)-2H-benzimidazole and donors including carbazole series. The new type of acceptor was fabricated in PCDTMBIs and PCBBTMBIs. |
