The nano-sized polymer micelle has been widely used as an intravenous drug delivery system. For successful cancer therapy, they need to satisfy several requirements, such as robustness in systemic blood circulation, ability to protect the premature drug release, and facilitated drug release within the target tissue. The mineralization of polymer micelles is an effective approach to control drug release by the change of pH condition. In this study, we describe a shell-specific mineralization of drug-loaded core-shell-corona polymer micelles for tumor therapy. We characterized mineralized nanoparticles by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. The mineralized shell layer may suppress drug release efficiently at extracellular pH condition (7.4) but dissolve in tumor pH condition (6.8) to facilitate the drug release. |
