Carbon-based electrocatalysts are considered an alternative to precious Pt, Ir, and Ru electrocatalysts to promote oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in the fields of metal-air batteries and fuel cells. However, it remains a big challenge to construct the well-defined active sites and pores of carbon electrocatalysts with outstanding activities and durability in the ORR and OER. Herein, a facile synthetic approach for the structural modulation of cobalt-doped carbon electrocatalysts (CoCEC) was developed to enhance the ORR and OER in Zn-air batteries. The as-papared CoCEC was found to exhibit superior electrocatalytic activities and long-term stability in the corresponding oxygen redox reactions, compared with commercial Pt/C and RuO2. In addition, the Zn-air battery composed of CoCEC displayed excellent performance with enhanced durability, compared with the one bearing Pt/C and RuO2 electrocatalysts. |
