Synthetic polymers, particularly aliphatic polyesters such as poly (p-dioxanone) PPDO poly (L-lactide) PLLA, poly (ε-caprolactone) PCL and poly (glycolide) PGA, are of growing interest in the field of biomedical applications. Recently, copolymers composed of polyesters and polyether blocks have increasingly been considered as worthwhile biodegradable materials. With the hope of improving biodegradability of the polymer, we synthesized a new block copolymer consisting of p-dioxanone, L-lactide and poly (ethylene glycol) in the presence of stannous octoate at 160℃ for 6h. The degradation behavior of the copolymers was investigated in a pH 7.4 phosphate buffer solution at 37±1℃ by using solvent casting film (film casting from methylene chloride solution) and electrospun fiber mats. Various techniques such as weight, gel permeation chromatography, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffractometry and scanning electron microscopy were used to monitor the changes in water absorption, weight loss, molar mass, molar mass distribution, thermal properties, compositions and morphology.
