Although polymeric dental composites has been widely used as direct esthetic restorative materials due to their esthetic quality, with improved safety issues by replacing the controversial mercury-based amalgams, they had still several important drawbacks, such as polymerization shrinkage and the possibility of potentially toxic chemicals such as bisphenol A leaching out of the fillings. In this study, bisphenol A glycidyl methacrylate (BisGMA) based trifunctional polymerizable oligomer was synthesized and characterized, used to formulate with TEGDMA as a diluent and colloidal silica as a nanofiller to be used as compomers, and finally evaluated their mechanical strengths such as compressive strength. |
