Amphiphilic graft copolymers, poly(aspartic acid) with dodecyl chains were successfully synthesized from PSI as a function of the amount of dodecyl chain. Poly(aspartic acid) grafted with dodecyl group formed self-aggregation in aqueous solution by the direct dissolution method. As DS (degree of substitution) increased, self-aggregates are changed from spherical micelle to wormlike micelle, disklike micelle, and vesicle and they are confirmed by the TEM images. In case of wormlike micelle and vesicle solution, there was a phenomenal increase of viscosity compared to other samples. Their rheological characteristics were confirmed using ARES rheometer. From TEM images and rheology experiments, we can conclude that self-aggregates form transient networks through the various systems and thus they can show interesting rheological behaviors. |
