제목 Syntheses and surface properties of new photo-responsive cationic gemini surfactants containing an azobenzene
초록  An asymmetric gemini type of photo-responsive cationic surfactants, N,N,N-(azobenzene-4-oxy-2-hydroxypropyl)dimethyl-N’,N’,N’-(alkyloxy-2-hydroxypropyl) dimethylethylene diammonium methylsulphate (GnAZ0DA, n=4, 8, and 12), were synthesized. The GnAZ0DA obtained at a high yield by designing a simple process that allows good response in the mild condition. The trans-GnAZ0DA series were converted to 92.5% of the cis form when exposed to UV light, and were reversibly converted to 73.7% of the trans form when exposed to visible light. The CMC value of the trans-GnAZ0DA series was from 1.62 x 10-4 to 1.89 x 10-3 mol/L, and the value of the cis-GnAZ0DA series was from 3.75 x 10-4 to 4.45 x 10-3 mol/L. This is a typical characteristic of the gemini surfactants, which have very low CMC values compared to counterpart monomers. Additionally, this study examined photo-isomerization for physical properties such as foam ability and emulsion stability.
