Gadolinium Addition Effects on the Wear and Corrosion Behaviors of Duplex Stainless Steel Sheet for Neutron Absorption Materials |

Duplex stainless steels with 1% gadolinium are prepared for the high performance neutron absorber materials and their corrosion and wear properties were evaluated in various chlorine solutions with different temperatures. Corrosion potential and corrosion rate of the Gd-duplex stainless steel sheet in a 0.1M NaCl solution were -2.6 VSCE and -6.62 A/cm2, respectively. Those in a 0.1M HCl solution were 0.84VSCE and -6.25 A/cm2, respectively. Coefficient of friction using a 45x45 mm sheet and a Gd-duplex stainless steel pin with 1 hour wear test was 3.11, and its wear loss was 0.47 mm. Microstructural observation by SEM and TEM will be presented to explain the corrosion and wear mechanisms. |
