Epoxy resins, one of the important thermosets, have good mechanical properties, chemical resistance, and have been used in paints and coatings, adhesives, industrial tooling, and composites. However, cured thermosets cannot be reshaped, recycled due to their cross-linked structures. Recently, epoxy vitrimers based on dynamic covalent bond exchange were introduced as alternatives to thermosets. In this study, the vitrimer composites containing spiropyran(SP) are successfully prepared from citric acid, and epoxy using Zinc acetylacetonate for the catalyst. To maintain the mechanophore properties of SP inside the vitrimer composites, we designed thermally and chemically stable SP beads using emulsion polymerization method. And epoxy groups were introduced on the SP beads to enhance mechano-sensitivity. The vitrimer composites showed excellent self-healing and mechano-responsive sensing properties, thus a variety of challenges are given for applied research in various fields. |
