제목 | Hydrogen conversion technology for foodwastewater using microbial electrolysis cell (MEC) |
초록 | Food waste contains high concentrations of organic substances, nutrients, and salts. After food waste is separated from solid and liquid, the solid is composted, fodder, or landfilled. However, the liquid is anaerobically digested or outsourced, which results in low yields and costs extra for outsourcing. If a bio-electrochemical system (BES) is applied to food wastewater instead of this method, high-purity hydrogen can be produced from waste resources. Microbial electrolysis cell (MEC), one of the BES, is a method that applies the electrochemical action that occurs in the process of microorganisms decomposing organic matter. MEC has the advantage of being able to generate hydrogen using much less energy than conventional water electrolysis. In this research, food wastewater is used as the input substrate for the MEC system, and the optimal reaction conditions for hydrogen production are found and its feasibility is reviewed. |
