As increasing production of synthetic fibers, more microplastic fibers are generated from washing clothing and detected more in the sea water. Microplastic fibers are known to be harmful to marine creatures, and they will threaten human lives eventually. Therefore, studies on reducing the release of microplastic fibers are of concern recently. Pre-tumbling before washing was carried to remove microplastic fibers that exist on the fabrics. This experiments were carried to investigate if this treatment affects the amount of microplastic fibers released from the fabrics during washing. The fabrics used in the experiments were nylon and polyester fabrics. The fabrics were washed after tumbling and the microplastics from wastewater during washing was collected using the quantitative filter paper with a pore size of 5um. As a result of this study, the amount of microplastics released by fabrics after pre-tumbling was different. |
