Nanocomposites of epoxy resins filled graphites exfoliated in supercritical CO2 |

Many research efforts have been focused on the exfoliation of graphite for the preparation of nanocomposites of polymer/graphene sheet. Most of the processes for the preparation of separated nano graphene platelets (NPG) include oxidation and reduction of graphite particles. Exfoliation through the oxidation process has some drawbacks since the reduction to restore sp2 hybrid state of the carbon can not be complete and the electrical conductivity of the final nanographite platelets is lowered. Thus, we present a new method for the direct exfoliation of graphite through two stages, intercalation of graphite with lithium metal in THF to prepare Li(THF)xC6 and then supercritical CO2 treatment of intercalated one to exfoliate into graphite nano platelets. Nanoplatelets/bis-phenol A based epoxy resin nanocomposites were prepared from the NPG obtained. Electrical surface resistivities of the nanocomposites were investigated as a function of nanographite platelets contents. |
