Block copolymers (BCPs) offer wide variety of self-assembled structures in terms of nanoscale morphologies where it can be applied in nanomaterials and also for nanofabrications. The BCPs undergo phase separation to give various nanoscale morphologies including lamellae, hexagonally packed cylinder, spherical, and gyroid structures. Apart of that, amphiphilic diblock copolymers can form micelles by self-assembling in selective solvents. In this work, functional block copolymers consisting of poly(2-vinyl pyridine) were successfully prepared by combination of ring opening polymerization and ATRP methods. The molecular weights, chemical structures and surface morphologies of these BCPs were confirmed by GPC, 1H NMR and AFM. Furthermore, double emulsion method has been used to produce microcapsules with an ultra-thin membrane. Metal precursors can be incorporated on these microcapsules to obtain hybrid organic/inorganic nanocomposites. |
