Effect of chemical modification of graphene oxide on mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of Polyimide/graphene oxide nanocomposites |

Polyimide (PI) nanocomposites were prepared with exfoliated graphene oxide (GO) and chemically reduced GO (rGO) nanosheets by using polyamic acid (PAA)/GO and PAA/rGO composites as the precursors, and their morphologies and mechanical and electrical properties were explored. The GO was reduced with several reducing agents such as hydrazine, dimethylformamide, and L-ascorbic acid. Graphene has opened up a new opportunity to introduce it into a PI matrix for developing PI-based nanocomposites with superior properties. The possible non-covalent hydrogen bonding (between functional groups of the GO/rGO and those of the PAA) as well as a simultaneous partial in-situ reaction could suppress the phase separation during the thermal imidization process. The prepared PI/GO (rGO) nanocomposites showed improved mechanical, electrical and thermal properties as compared its pure PI. Their properties were strongly correlated with the reduced states of the used rGOs. |
