Formation of electrospun nanofiber waves of methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)(MPEG) by using viscous nylon-6 solution |

MPEG oligomer(molecular wt.550) was successfully electrospun with viscous nylon-6 acidic solution. Thinner fibers of MPEG (15 nm in diameter) were seen with thicker nylon-6 nanofibers (200 nm in diameter) in the form of spider-net like structure by electrospinning. The formation of two types of nanofibers by means of phase separation was conformed by extraction of thinner fibers of MPEG from the electrospun mat using water. FE-SEM, FT-IR and TGA analysis were carried out to conform the formation of hybrid nanocomposite mat. The interaction of MPEG fibers with nylon-6 fibers may be due to the formation of hydrogen bond. This high aspect ratio spider-net structure of hybrid polymeric mat may be potential candidate for air filtration. Moreover, we observed the further polymerization of MPEG during electrospinning. |
