Recently considerable effort has been directed toward the silk fibroin used as a biotechnological material in biomedical applications on account of its excellent biodegradability and biocompatibility. Especially, for using in tissue engineering, it is very important how to design and control the pore architecture in 3D polymeric scaffolds which provides the vital framework for the seeded cells to organize into a functioning tissue. In this study, we investigated the effects of different pH on the pore microstructure of silk fibroin 3D scaffolds. The fabricated silk fibroin scaffolds using freeze-drying technique were successfully prepared in the range of pH from 3 to 11. Pore size, porosity and pore interconnectivity of the fibroin-based scaffolds prepared in various pH values were observed. |
