Bending-Stress-Driven Phase Transition in Pentacene Thin Films for Flexible Organic Thin Film Transistors |

We have investigated the effect of strain on the structure and electrical characteristics of the nanoscale active layer. The field-effect mobility of the pentacene FET with the compressive-strained pentacene film increased by 13% at strain of 1.2%, while that of the pentacene FET with the tensile-strained pentacene film decreased by 27% at strain of 1.3%. The change in the mobility under strain resulted from bending-stress driven phase transition in pentacene films between the bulk phase and the thin film phase, which was driven by the change in-plane dimension of unit cells between two phases to reduce the external bending stress. |
