Preparation and Characterization of Silk Fibroin/Gelatin scaffolds for tissue engineering |

Silk Fibroin is non-toxic, non-immunogenic and has been demonstrated to support cell and tissue growth. Gelatin is natural material derived from collagen by hydrolysis and has almost identical composition as that of collagen. Silk Fibroin/Gelatin scaffold can be fabricated by using the freeze-drying method. The Silk Fibroin prepared by crosslinking with or without 2.5% glutaldehyde was applied to 4% gelatin for Establishment of the manufacturing processes of the scaffolds. After Silk Fibroin prepared by 0.1, 0.2, 0.3g was applied to 2, 4, 8% gelatin and crosslinked by 0.25, 1, 2.5 mM of glutaldehyde. The Silk Fibroin scaffold was characterized using SEM, water absorption ability, DSC and WST. In conclusion, Silk Fibroin/Gelatin scaffold may serve as a potential cell delivery vehicle and a structural basis for tissue engineering. This research was supported by WCU(R31-20029). |
