The mechanical and thermal properties of UV cured polyester acrylate/clay nanocomposite films were investigated using UTM, DSC, TGA and FTIR. The dispersion of clay in the nanocomposite film was characterized by TEM and XRD. Clay used was a natural montmorillonite modified with a quaternary ammonium salt. The amount of the clay added to the polyester acrylate resin was 0 to 7 phr. The photoinitiator used was 1phr of Irgacure 184. The amount of a reactive diluent, hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA) added was 0~40phr. UV curing of the polyester acrylate/clay nanocomposite systems was carried out in a UV chamber. Tensile strength of the polyester acrylate/clay films increased with UV curing time and clay content. Tensile strength of the polyester acrylate/clay films increased with increasing UV intensity. |
