제목 The difficult role of defects in polycrystalline MFI zeolite membrane on xylene separation performance: with quantitative analysis
초록 By fluorescence confocal optical microscopy (FCOM) we can obtain processing images about the defect structure in c-out-of-plane oriented MFI membrane. That can lead to the identification and understanding of two types of defects (cracks and grain boundary defects).

Also, we found that the amount of defects in the entire zeolite membrane was close to ~1%, but it provided a non-selective and facile pathway accounting for ~58% of the total molar flux.

Surprisingly, in spite of the lower density of cracks, wider cracks (~7.8-8.2 nm) accounted for the much higher molar flux of permeation components compared to major. Indeed, the cracks mainly degraded p-/o-xylene separation performance of the MFI membrane.

Finally, we found that the molar flux of o-xylene in binary mixtures increased significantly in the in the presence of p-xylene, because flexible MFI zeolite structure after the adsorption of p-xylene increases in the crack size.
