To overcome the limitations and improve the photovoltaic performance of the BHJ solar cells of P3HT:PCBM, the interfacial layer of either electron-transporting metal oxides or the nanosized silver particles with surface plasmonic resonance capability was inserted between the active layers and electrodes. The metal oxide, e.g. titania or zinc oxide harvest electrons from many of the electron acceptor components of polymer solar cells and block holes, and limit surface recombination at the contact. The interfacial interlayer of these metal oxides located between the active layer and electrode acted as optical spacer to shift the maximum light intensity, which increased the exciton generation rate and improves the performance of polymer solar cells. The various amount of alkylated silver nanoparticles was also introduced as a surface plasmon resonance interface to improve the light absorption and enhanced the power conversion efficiency of the cells. |
