A Study on the Removal Process of Impurities in Crude Oil Using Electric Field |

Unconventional crude oil is low-grade crude oil with abundant reserves and contains various kinds of impurities such as inorganic matter, asphaltene. These impurities can be purified through a desalting process. In the desalting process, impurities are dissolved in water by adding water to the crude oil and emulsifying them. Then, by applying an electric field, water and impurities can be removed from the crude oil. This study was conducted to effectively remove impurities contained in crude oil by using this process. The effect of removing impurities according to various process conditions was confirmed and applied to a pilot process. Impurity removal efficiency was confirmed by analyzing total acid number, Na and Ca contents, and Na removal rate was higher than 80%. |
