Influence of ionic liquidswith differentalkyl-chain-length onthe performance in dye-sensitized solar cells |

Recently many kinds of ionic liquids have been developed as an iodide supplier for liquid, quasi-solid, solid and solvent-free electrolytes in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Among them, ionic liquid salts such as 1-methyl-3-propylimidazolium iodide (MPII), 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide (BMII) and tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI) have been widely utilized. It was found that photovoltaic performances such as photovoltage and photocurrent were enhanced simultaneously upon increasing the chain length of the ionic liquids, which are consistent with the results previously reported. In order to characterize such behavior, we applied electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) for interfacial impedance, intensity modulated photovoltage spectroscopy (IMVS) for recombination reaction in the vicinity of TiO2 layer, incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency (IPCE) for photocurrent change in the wavelength of visible light under both dark and illumination conditions. |
