Effects of VIM contents on char-yielding and thermal characteristic of Poly[acrylonitrile-co-(1-vinylimidazole)] |

AN/VIM (poly(acrylonitrile-co-1-vinylimidazole) copolymer was synthesized to obtain thermally soluble polyacrylonitrile. The effects of 1-vinylimidazole (VIM) incorporation (0-20 mol%) on the glass transition and melting behavior were studied. The glass transition temperature become lower with higher VIM content in copolymers, and it could be confirmed by the step change in heat capacity at Tg from DSC. DSC and TGA results indicated that the melt-processability of the copolymers increased with increasing VIM content. |
