Monolayers of 1,1’-bi-2-naphthol(BN) derivatives, of which the two naphthalene rings are twisted along the carbon(1)-carbon(1’) single bond, were synthesized and utilized for controlling the growth of organic crystals on solid surfaces. When pentacene was deposited by the thermally evaporated method on these BN monolayers, the BN monolayers suppressed the nucleation while facilitating the growth of crystals that had already nucleated. The low nucleation density and high growth rate are accounted for by the amorphous nature of the twisted BN monolayer. We fabricated pentacene-based organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) using the unique crystal growth behaviors on the BN monolayer. Also, we studied the effect of the amorphous BN monolayers on the properties of the OTFT. |
