CommercialLithium-ion battery (LIB) electrodes are manufactured by mixing slurry which isuniformly dispersed in N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent. Although such wetprocessing of electrodes is a widely used method, several problems haveoccurred. The microstructural defects may occur on the electrode surface whilethe solvent evaporates, NMP solvent is expensive, harmful to the human body, and is not good for the environment. Therefore, we manufactured LIB cells usingthe solvent-free dry process to solve problems. NCM811, CNT, andPolytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) binder were weighed and mixed in an agate mortarfor approximately 1h, and the mixture was compressed. The electrode sheet witha 0.2~0.3mm thickness was formed, and after punching, Al was coated on thebackside by the sputtering method. The dispersibility of the electrode sheetwas confirmed through SEM, TEM image, and EDS analysis, and the electrochemicalperformance was also confirmed |
