Smoke production characteristics of biomass fuel |

This study was performed with respect to the smoke production characteristics of the biomass fuel wood. Smoke production properties were measured using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-2) with four kinds of softwood. The external heat flux was maintained at 25 kW/m2. Mass lost of all specimens was 76.6% to 96.4% and that of spruce had the smallest value. The total smoke release rate of red pine was the highest value as 387.4 m2/m2 while that of spruce was the lowest value as 153.9 m2/m2. The total smoke production of all specimens was 1.4 m2 to 3.4 m2 and spruce was measured in the lowest value. The peak smoke release rate of the red pine was the highest value with 0.0363 m2/s and spruce was the lowest value with 0.231 m2/s. Time to the peak smoke production rate was 15 s to 25 s, appearing in the peak of the first smoke production rate except for red pine. Spruce was obtained in the lowest amount of total smoke production and yet soot of this was gained to the highest value as 23.4%. |
