Liquid crystal (LC) patterning has been studied with keen interest due to its potential applications such as patterning templates, opto-electronic uses and biological mimics. There have been introduced various kinds of methods to control LCs such as optical, chenmial, or mechanical treatments, but still, these techniques has been limited 1 or 2D pathways. Here, we suggest a new method to get the 3-dimensionally patterned LC phase in the confined geometries, here porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) film can guide the LCs into highly ordered helical superstructures. For accurate structure investigation, GIXD and various visualizing experiments (SEM and POM) were carried out with various conditions such as different weight fraction and channel dimensions, giving the important insight into self-confining system of LC phase, and the hint to the possibility to LC-based patterning methods that have never been achieved by the other aligning techniques. |
