Fabrication of Calcium Phosphate-Calcium Sulfate Injectable Bone Substitute Using Hydroxy-Propyl-Methyl-Cellulose and Citric Acid |

In this study, we fabricated an injectable bone substitute (IBS) that could be molded into any desired shape. The liquid component of IBS consisted of the aqueous solution of citric acid and chitosan. The powder component of IBS consisted of tetra calcium phosphate (TTCP), di-calcium phosphate di-hydrate (DCPD), calcium sulfate di-hydrate (CSD) and Hydroxy-propyl-methyl-Cellulose (HPMC) powders. The content of HPMC and citric acid were varied. The setting time and compressive strength were evaluated depending on the percentage of HPMC and citric acid. After incubation at 370C and in 100% humidity, the phases were detected using X-ray diffraction technique and the morphology was observed by scanning electron microscopy |
