Cobalt ferrite/carbon spheres composite as high-performance anode electrocatalyst for Escherichia coli-based microbial fuel cell |
초록 |
We synthesized flower-like microspheres of cobalt ferrite(CoFe2O4)/carbon sphere(CS) composite(CoFe2O4/CS) through a facile template- and surfactant-free hydrothermal synthesis followed by thermal decomposition treatment and have been utilized as microbial fuel cell(MFC) anode. In MFC based on Escherichia coli(E. coli), the polarization curve measurements show that the as-prepared CoFe2O4/CS exhibits superior performance as anode material, delivering a maximum power density of 1723mWm-2, and higher than those of CoFe2O4(974mWm-2) and CS(483mWm-2), in the solution containing 2g/L glucose as fuel. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) measurements infer that the CoFe2O4/CS anode exhibited low charge transfer resistance and the output current increases with increasing time as the hosting of bacteria on the electrode increases.Superior performance of the as-prepared CoFe2O4/CS is ascribed to its flower-like microspheres which act as the habitat for the colonization of E. coli. |
