Graphene Oxide Optical Sensor for Detection of Acetylcholinesterase Activity and Its Inhibitor |

Recently, it has been found that graphene oxide (GO) emits photostable and tunable fluorescence from a visible to a near infrared (NIR) range of electromagnetic spectrum. However, there are few reports for GO fluorescence-based biosensors. Here, we demonstrate a novel GO biosensor capable of assessing the activity of an enzyme, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), and detecting its inhibitor through its fluorescence change. To this end, GO was non-covalently functionalized by phenoxy-dextran polymer (GO-PhO-dex), which showed an outstanding colloidal stability and strong fluorescence in aqueous solution. GO-PhO-dex was able to report the hydrolysis activity of AChE through its turn-on fluorescence. In addition, GO-PhO-dex was capable of sensing an AChE inhibitor via its fluorescence quenching. |
