As global interests in biomass grows more and more. To follow the trends, we reported 5-Acetoxymethylfurfural(AMF) as an important platform chemicals candidate last year. AMF possesses advanced properties arising from its less hydrophilic acetoxymethyl group instead of the hydroxymethyl group of HMF leading to easy separation and purification. Moreover we studied functionalization of it into several value-added furanoic derivatives. Especially we focused on synthesizing 2,5-Dimethylfuran(2,5-DMF) from AMF. The potential of 2,5-DMF is like un-locked key. It is possible liquid fuel with moderate boiling point with high-research-octane-number and high-energy-density. In addition, it can be converted into p-xylene which is an intermediate used for the production of terephthalate polymers. Herein, we report the studies of synthetic effort and results toward efficient conversion of AMF into 2,5-DMF under various reaction conditions such as catalysts, solvents, temperature, pressure and etc. |
