Selective capture of CO2 by pre-amination for granular activated carbon |

In order to selectively capture the low level CO2 in indoor, two treatment steps viz pre-oxidation, using AOPs approach and amination were attempted in this work. O3 and H2O2 were oxidants used with and without UV-C irradiation to test for any enhancement effect the UV radiation has in the eventual CO2 capture selectivity. It was observed that though the presence of UV-C reduces the total amount of SOFs but that of SNFs achieved after amination was enhanced. Generally, amination improved the CO2 adsorption capacities of the as-received carbon in about 3-fold, at least, while each pre-oxidative pretreatment also shows further enhancement on this result. The introduction of UV-C irradiation accompanying the oxidants in these advanced oxidative processes (AOPs) showed an enhancement too; more significantly observed was that of O3 + UV when compared to H2O2 + UV. It concluded that the physical activation is more responsible for CO2 adsorption potential than chemical treatment. |
