Auxiliary Power Units (APU) based on Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC), which provide non-propulsion power for heavy-duty truck, are promising technology due to their high efficiency and environmental friendliness compared with idling. The performance of the system depends heavily on the electrochemical characteristics of the cell inside the stack, which is a key component of the system. In order to construct an efficient system, the system must be designed and operated to maximize the electrochemical performance of the cell. Thus, in this study, a distributed model of the stack including a detailed electrochemical model of the cell is constructed, and then the model is introduced into the overall system model including balance of plant (B.O.P), such as reformer, heat exchangers. Then, it is investigated that the electrochemical characteristics of cell affects the performance of the system using the developed model, and furthermore, it is discussed that such characteristics can change the optimal design and operating conditions of the overall system. |
