Stabilization and Gelation of Pickering Emulsions with Amphiphilic Janus Nanoplatelets |
초록 |
Janus particles, which are unique biphasic colloids with distinct physicochemical properties, have been widely used as Pickering emulsion stabilizers. In principle, the stability of Pickering emulsions is determined by interfacial energy which is related to particle geometry and surface wettability. Especially, compared to other shapes, platelet-like Janus particles can exhibit an ideal interfacial adhesion for stabilization of Pickering emulsion drops. For this, we synthesized amphiphilic Janus nanoplatelets(ANPLs) by sequence of surface modification and SI-ARGET ATRP which enabling give asymmetric properties on each surface of the platelets. The Pickering emulsion stabilized with ANPLs showed surprisingly improved stability and exhibited gel-like behavior due to interdrop hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interaction even under harsh conditions. Finally, we demonstrated that the ANPLs can be used as a promising platelet surfactant to realize ideal wetting at oil-water interface. |
