Preparation and characterization of bacterial cellulose hydrogels |

In this study, biodegradable bacterial cellulose-based hydrogels were prepared and characterized by SEM, XRD, TGA and FT-IR. Bacterial cellulose was produced by Acetobacter xylinum. Cellulose was a water-insoluble polysaccharide. So, bacterial cellulose hydrogels were partially carboxymethylated by a one-bath method using monochloroacetic acid and sodium hydroxide. The overall degree of substitution was varied from 0.04 to 0.7. The carboxymethylated bacterial cellulose was easily dissolved in water. The obtaine product is absolutely recommened for pharmaceutical applications and as food additives. |
