Acid activated bentonite clay: An efficient solid acid catalyst for removal of trace olefins from aromatics |
초록 |
The C6–C8 aromatics such as benzene, toluene, xylene (BTX) and ethyl benzene are the large volume hydrocarbons used by the petrochemical industry and produced in petroleum refining plants at high severity levels which converts highly naphthenic feedstock into aromatics by dehydration process. The conversion of naphtha into BTX streams is always accompanied by the formation of non-aromatic olefins such as hexenes, heptane etc. These olefins not only poison to the downstream units such as p-xylene extraction units or benzene alkylation units but also reduce the commercial value of produced BTX. In this context herein we reports the acid activation of bentonite clay, for the removal of trace olefins in aromatic hydrocarbon. The parameters for the acid activation of bentonite clay have been optimized by varying the acid concentrations in the range 6-10 N while maintaining the high clay concentrations (2-6 % w/v). The prepared acid activated clay samples have been characterized by different physiochemical techniques and utilized for the removal of trace olefins in aromatic hydrocarbon. The maximum removal of 1- hexene was 1827 mg g-1 for an acid activation performed at relatively mild activation conditions 6 N H2SO4 and 6 % w/v clay. The optimized catalytic olefin removal processes were upscale, also evaluated in the fixed bed reactor. |
