In this study, we prepared mesoporous activated carbon (K-AC) using a readily available, environmentally friendly resource: kenaf. Crucially, modification using phosphoric acid activation was carried out, which enabled the tuning of the crystal structure and the pore characteristics of the product. The N2 adsorption isotherm characteristics at 77K were con¬firmed by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller and Barrett-Joyner-Halenda equations. The structural characteristics of K-AC were observed using X-ray diraction. The KAC were applied as an electrode for electrical double-layer capacitors and analyzed in relation to the activation conditions. The specific surface areas and total pore volumes of the KACs were observed 1490-1940 m2/g and 1.18-3.18 cm3/g, respectively. The high specific surface area and mesopore-rich nature originate from the phosphoric acid treatment. Finally, K-AC was used as the electrode material in EDLCs, and the specific capacitance was found to be 87.7 F/g. |
