Highly adhesive and transparent polymer electrolytes for flexible electrochromic device |

An electrochromic device (ECD) is expected to be widely utilized as a smart window that can greatly improve the energy efficiency of buildings while controlling the transmittance of visible light through the oxidation-reduction reactions of the electrochromic materials. In this study, a polymer electrolyte having excellent adhesion and transparency was developed for the fabrication of high-performance flexible ECDs. We have tested various polymers containing specific functional groups and an appropriate plasticizer was used together to significantly improve adhesion performance and ionic conductivity of the polymer electrolytes. In addition, the effect of the difference between chemical and physical adhesion mechanisms of a polymer electrolyte on the electrochromic performance was systematically studied.
