Columnar Nano-reactor based on Ordered Inverse-opal Structure for Organic Conversion |

Exploring a new method for fabricating high surface area nanoreactors is critical to achieving superior contaminant removal and water treatment performance. Here, a new hard-template strategy was developed to synthesize 3D ordered porous inverse-opal structured columnar devices from high-performance polymers. The inverse-opal structure provides a high specific surface area, as well as more contact time between the reaction substrate and the active sites. The combination of g-C3N4 with Fe ions produced a photocatalytic nanoreactor that purifies water under an advanced oxidation process. The photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants was investigated under the Fenton reaction, with the removal of synthetic dyes reaching 90% and conventional drugs reaching more than 81%. The results showed that hydroxyl and superoxide radicals attached to the reactor surface were the main active species inducing the catalytic degradation of organic compounds. |
