Bactericidal activity and mammalian cytotoxicity study of Ag nanoparticle embedded polymer thin film |

We have studied the quantitative synthesis of Ag nanoparticles(AgNPs) using polymer thin films and kinetics of active silver ion species released from AgNps.The AgNP-hybrid films were fabricated by in-situ AgNP synthesis with layer-by-layered polymer films as templates. Then we examined the biocompatibility of silver nanoparticles through the cellular viability assay. Baterial cells(E-coli) could not survive on the hybrid films even with only a small amount of AgNPs when no significant effect was found in the case of mamalian cells. More detailed quatitative study on cell toxicity was conducted with various amounts of AgNPs. We found the the optimal conditions where this AgNP hybrid system can be used for long-term cell culture with anti-bacterial function. |
