Highly ordered mesoporous silica(SBA-15) has been synthesized and functionalized with 3-cyanopropyltriethoxysilane under reflux condition. The cyanogroup of the functionalized SBA-15 has been converted to amidoxime functionality through a single step modification route.The successful synthesis, fuctionalization and further modifications of SBA-15 has been confirmed by various characterization techniques such as XRD, FT-IR, SEM, TEM, N2-sorption, inductive coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy,29Si CP MAS NMR,13CP MAS NMR and TG-DTA analysis.The heterogeneously anchored amidoxime group was effectively utilized as a chelating ligand for the solid phase adsorption of metal ions from sea water and nuclear waste water. The extent of adsorption has been measured by inductive coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and FT-IR.The sorbent exhibited good stability, reusability, high sorption capacity and fast rate of equilibrium for adsorption/desorption of metal ions. |
