Nitrogen oxides (NOx) are produced during the combustion of nitrogen containing organics under air at high temperature (ex. power plant using fossil fuels and diesel engine). In order to remove NOx from the flue gases generated at power plant, the solution of mixture of urea and ammonium carbonate has been used. Although the ammonium carbonate can be easily produced by mixing CO2 and ammonia, this method has drawbacks including the environmental issue for the toxicity of ammonia and producing water-insoluble ammonium bicarbonate as a by-product. In this study, the efficient method has been developed to prepare the ammonium carbonate-urea solution by the catalytic hydrolysis of urea. |
