In this study, we report an easy and scalable electrochemical anodization technique to fabricate a superhydrophilic TiO2 film with reversible wettability. The electrochemically anodized titanium foil exhibits surface roughness and nanoscale topographical features that enhance light absorption, interconnected nanowebs and nanofibrils. After 5 min of UV irradiation, a water contact angle of 4.8° is measured for 5 μL of deionized water droplets, but the contact angle after 5 min of white light irradiation is 3.2°. In addition, under UV irradiation, the superhydrophilic Ti foil exhibits self-cleaning properties. Important factors contributing to superhydrophilicity include surface topology and surface chemistry. |
