Uniform submicrometer-sized graphene oxide (GO) sheets were successfully fabricated via a straightforward mechanochemical method. Interestingly, the morphology of GO flake was gradually transformed into spherical shape, and the density slightly decreased depending on the ball-milling time. The GO sheets prepared by ball-milling process can be utilized as an electrorheological (ER) material because it exhibits low conductivity and can be highly dispersed in silicone oil. The ER performance of the ball-milled GO-based ER fluid was investigated and compared with that of non-milled GO-based ER fluid. In addition, response and recovery time, and anti-sedimentation property were examined to provide in-depth insight into the size effect of the ball-milled GO sheets. |
