Polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) is a siloxane-based transparent liquid with potential use in a wide range of applications owing to its high thermal stability, inertness to air and moisture, solubility in common organic solvents, and hydrophobicity. Despite of several advantages of PMHS, the use of PMHS for the synthesis of superhydrophobic materials and their uses for practical applications were limited. In this sense, we focused on the synthesis of PMHS and its micro-nanocomposites, in particular, bioinspired micro-nancomposites using natural leaf powders. We found that the PMHS based superhydrophobic nanomaterials could be used for many interesting practical applications such as in oil-spill capture and separations, self-cleaning and self-healing systems, anti-stain coatings, and metal adsorption, etc. This talk overviews the visionary outlook for the future development and use of the superhydrophobic nanomaterials for a wide variety of applications based on our recent works. |
