The use of PPARγ (peroxisome proliferator activated receptor γ) activators in the treatment of type 2 diabetes is well established due to their ability to lower blood glucose and insulin levels and improve insulin sensitivity. Thiazolidinedione analog is one of the potential antidiabetic drugs that binds and activates PPARγ selectively. In an effort to develop novel and effective antidiabetic polymers, new monomer, 5-(4-O-methylacryloyl-benzylidene)thiazolidine-2,4-dione (MABTZD), is synthesized by the reaction of 5-(4-hydoxybenzylidene)thiazolidine-2,4-dione and methacrylic anhydride. The homopolymer of MABTZD is prepared by thermal polymerization using benzoyl peroxide as initiator. |
