Gold-Decorated Block copolymer Colloid with Controlled Surface Nano-Structures |

Gold-decorated block copolymer colloids(BPCs) displaying various surface morphologies were prepared by the infiltration of Au precursors into polystyrene-b-poly(4-vinylpyridine)(PS-b-P4VP) BPCs. The BPCs were fabricated by emulsifying the PS-b-P4VP in chloroform into a surfactant solution. The selective swelling of the P4VP domains in the BPCs by the Au precursor under acidic conditions resulted in the formation of gold-decorated BPCs with various surface nanostructures. As evidenced by TEM and SEM measurements, dotted surface patterns were formed with BPCs smaller than 800nm, whereas fingerprint-like surface patterns were observed with BPCs larger than 800nm. The optical property of the BCPs was characterized using UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. A maximum absorption peak was observed at 580nm, indicating that Au NPs are densely packed into P4VP domains on the BPCs. Our approach for creating the hybrid BPCs can be extended to other NP systems such as iron-oxide or platinum NPs. |
